I am a mature student in my late 40’s who is studying for a degree that I never dreamt I would have the opportunity to do.
I do not recall actually learning to sew as my late Mum instilled a love of stitch before I can even remember. My late Mum was an exquisite and highly skilled seamstress, embroiderer, quilter and also when she sketched a wonderful artist and now as I work through the courses of my degree I can almost hear her voice which is full of delight as I learn new skills and finally slow down and improve old ones.
As I write this I am in the process of preparing my first two OCA courses for assessment and starting on this my final Level 4 course. My fiance had originally found OCA and encouraged me to apply for information on the degrees – it took me 3 months to apply but it has honestly been one of the best decisions I could have made.
I am engaged to my beloved fiance and I am also a Mum of 3 children – 2 boys aged 21 and 19 and a daughter aged 17 but since starting my degree courses I have also become a mother-in-law and a grandma to a beautiful grandson.
But what do I hope to achieve by my studies? I want to be working full time with a successful business in the textile world and hopefully teaching in some capacity.
